Unassuming, often underappreciated part of outfit, when appropriately matched, can bring fanciful, surprising notes to the mix. They go by their own rules – occasion wise. Length and color equally matters. The socks are supposed to be long enough not to expose our bare calf (the same rule goes for leg crossing), with shorts there's the other way around – socks should be entirely covered. Colour? Trousers and/or shoes call for matching pair of socks. That's a thing of note in formal occasions. However we can't go wrong with fancy textures, patterns or rich colours in smart-casual outfits. A rule of thumb is not to style loafers with socks, though modern-day trends allow some exceptions, which adds playful, unexpected accents.
